Rugby is one of the fastest growing sports in the United States, as well as the rest of the world. USA Rugby governs rugby in the United States and is currently responsible for over 700 senior club teams, 900 college teams, 1200 high school teams, and 400 youth teams. Through their Rookie Rugby program, USA Rugby has developed a structure for building and maintaining youth rugby programs with an eye on teaching the game in a simple, safe way - with a goal of building grass-roots rugby that can grow into a viable feeder conduit for high school, college and national teams playing on the international stage.

SMYRA

The San Marcos Youth Rugby Association (SMYRA) is a non-profit organization dedicated to the development, promotion and administration of rugby programs in San Marcos and the greater Hays County area for youth of all ages, genders and socio-economic status. In addition to technical skills and physical fitness, SMYRA strives to promote and maintain the ideals of character, integrity, sportsmanship, citizenship, fair play and camaraderie.

Following the Rookie Rugby blueprint, SMYRA works with local schools and school districts to introduce rugby into the PE programs, as well as offering community programs outside the school system.
